Pansy’s Bathing Place

This fjord, an offshoot of the River Stour, takes you by complete surprise as you ramble up the enclosed forest path between two fields.

It’s a much-loved spot for local walkers, none more-so than Pansy, the golden retriever of notable residents who lived in the area back in the 1950’s, who loved a good swim*, hence the name given to the spot by the locals.

Despite its situation in an old and traditional part of Dorset, the spot reminded me strongly of some of the gorges you can find winding their way through tropical North Queensland, and that’s how I wanted to shoot it, as an inviting, tranquil and safe place to cool yourself off from the strong sun.

Part of the Throop collection.
